COTA NT in conjunction with COTA Australia is proud to partner with Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA) in an important campaign to raise awareness on the problem of elder abuse in Australia.

EAAA is the national voice for action to end the abuse of older people and to raise awareness of the often-hidden issue of discrimination. It was recently awarded a tender to do awareness-raising work and create educational materials focused on family, domestic and sexual violence against older people in Australia.

The purpose of the materials is to improve the understanding of, and response to, elder abuse by workers and professionals who interact with older people living in the community.

We need your help

We are seeking people aged over 60 (or if a First Nations person, 45+) to participate in workshops in Darwin and Katherine to gather information which will guide and inform the development of these materials. The workshops will be facilitated by COTA Australia (a community consultation partner of EAAA) and promoted with the help of COTA NT.

Each workshop will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm in October. Your participation will be acknowledged with a small gift. (Note, there will be a break for morning tea. Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements.)

Key questions will be:

How can frontline workers better support older people experiencing elder abuse?

What knowledge and skills do frontline workers need to develop and enhance to support older people experiencing elder abuse?
