Aged care access service
Finding the right government-funded aged care services can be confusing and time-consuming — but it doesn’t have to be. Our aged care access service supports people of all ages, along with their families and carers, to navigate the system with ease.
Many people need help finding government-funded aged care services because the system can be complex, fragmented and difficult to navigate. Understanding eligibility, assessments, waiting lists and the different types of support available – such as home care packages or residential care – often requires time, digital access and confidence that not everyone has.
This is where our experienced and professional Aged Care Navigators can help.
Members’ priority service
We employ two Aged Care Navigators, Janet Brown in Darwin and Janet Brown in Alice Springs. Following the end of Commonwealth funding for this service in December 2022, their service is delivered with PRIORITY, but not exclusively, to COTA NT Members. Members may be seeking support for their own care, that of a family member or person they care for.

About our aged care access service
Our Aged Care Navigators ensure you have access to up-to-date and relevant information about aged care options and the aged care system, and more importantly, gain an understanding of the process — before you make any decisions about aged care (or as you need support).
Our staff use easy to understand and jargon-free language (and translators can be booked if needed for languages other than English), and will take time to explain anything you are not sure about. Their service is free and confidential. They can also:
- ensure you know and understand what your rights and choices are.
- help you with eligibility assessments, changing aged care service providers and making formal complaints about aged care.
- support you to use and understand online tools and resources such as My Aged Care applications, personal guides to aged care, residential aged care and support at home fee estimators, home support care contract checklist and My Aged Care guides and factsheets.
They will help you navigate through My Aged Care to get the support you need.

- Translators can be arranged with prior notice
- Consultations are free, but donations to help fund the service are appreciated (make a donation here)
- You can also request a small group presentation about accessing aged care.
