COTA Australia works to:
- Promote, improve and protect the circumstances and wellbeing of older people in Australia as citizens and consumers.
- Be recognised by government, the general community and media as representing, advocating for and serving all older Australians
- Inform and support individuals and organisations.

*Council on the Ageing was rebranded as COTA, simply an abbreviation of the organisation’s original name in 2009. Some COTAs have reverted back to using Council on the Ageing.
