COTA NT created Seniors Expos to bring people together – to foster community connections, to help conversations happen and to celebrate the contribution that seniors continue to make to the Northern Territory.

The first Seniors Expo focused on an open “one-stop” community event specifically for seniors – where stakeholder smet with service providers, businesses and community groups focusing on seniors’ issues, concerns and lifestyle. Lord Mayor of Darwin, Katrina Fong Lim described Seniors EXPO as a “very special community event”.
The first Seniors EXPO in 2015 won the Australia Day Award for Community Event of the Year award and attracted over 400 people. COTA NT’s Seniors Expos have grown from strength to strength – in reach and reputation (see what people say about COTA NT’s Expos).
Seniors Expos in Alice Springs are incorporated into Seniors Month activities. In 2019 and 2020, they were smaller events ‘Health and Wellness Days’ which have developed into Expo-style events. The 2022 Expo was a combined indoor event with the Alice Springs Town Council, continuing a partnership starting in 2020.
Seniors Days in Batchelor are run by the COTA Coomalie Branch and incorporated into Seniors Month Activities. Typically, these Days are open to both urban and rural seniors with lunch, entertainment and transport provided.
COTA NT brought its successful Expo formula to Katherine in 2021 with the support of the YMCA and service providers. This relatively new Expo continues to grow and COTA NT intend to runs its 3rd Expo in Katherine during March 2023.
