Seniors calendars and communication

10 Apr 2018

Seniors squash and racquetball is one of the many activities listed on the Territory Seniors Calendar

Applications for Seniors Month grants are in the process of being assessed by the team at Territory families. As soon as the outcomes of these applications are known, we will be pulling together all the information we are given by event organisers to create the Seniors Month calendar. As per last year, the calendar will be available in print format but for early birds – and for those who miss the print calendar deadline (which will be shortly after grant notifications) – there is of course the online calendar hosted on the COTA NT website.

Since its publication last year, the online Territory Seniors Calendar now lists 3665 events and activities. If you are new to the Territory or just wondering what’s on that may interest you or an older person that you are caring for, take a look at it. The calendar is arranged by regions and one-off events are highlighted so you don’t miss them. Event and activity organisers – remember, this calendar is for you too and it’s completely free to list your event.

COTA NT uses online media to communicate to senior Territorians as it’s the most cost-effective resource we have. However, more than anything we prize that good old-fashioned artform called conversation and face-to-face contact.  That’s what Seniors EXPO on Friday 1 June in Palmerston is all about. It’s also something that seniors in Alice Springs can now have with COTA NT, as we have been able to appoint a Coordinator for the region, Ms Fran Kilgariff. Fran will be available on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings at the Alice Springs 50 Plus Community Centre at 11 Wills Street. Fran will be helping seniors apply for the NT Seniors Card scheme now managed by COTA NT, bringing more local businesses on board to increase the scheme’s range of benefits and assisting with other enquiries. (The new NT Seniors Card dedicated website will be online soon).
