Online boost for Seniors Month
11 Apr 2017
Grant applications for organisations wishing to apply for funding for Seniors Month in August have now closed. COTA NT is thrilled to announce that we will be organising, printing and distributing the 2017 Seniors Month Calendar. This was on our wish list to the NT government, along with other programmes relevant to seniors, such as the Seniors Card, however, we will start with the Seniors Month Calendar.
COTA will be updating its website to offer an exciting new feature – an easy-to-use online Community Events calendar. Organisations and businesses planning to host an activity or event during Seniors Month will be invited to submit their event information directly to our website. This means that the details won’t be entered and re-entered by people not familiar with the activity – which is where mistakes can sometimes occur. COTA NT will be reviewing each Community Events calendar submissions prior to making it live.
Events can be viewed by region and by anyone with access to the Internet. This additional online capability will prove very useful, as the print calendar will not be distributed via ‘snail mail’ to holders of the NT Seniors Card as in previous years.
COTA NT also attended a planning workshop with the Office of Territory Families which was very informative. This new department has the responsibility of delivering services across a diverse range of portfolios. With a budget of only $249 million, this will be a test for all those involved, especially in relation to youth justice, out of home care in remote communities, plus numerous more and not to forget our seniors!
We believe that the Expert Review Group – that COTA was a part of – will be advised of the outcomes of the Pensioners and Concessions Scheme review on the 2nd May, just before the Territory Budget is bought down – so fingers crossed that it will be good news.
