Lobbying hard for Territory seniors

28 Mar 2017

Cultural performance with drumming and dance from Mbackeh Darboe celebrates Harmony Day at COTA

Our members would have been aware that COTA was on the Expert Review Group and have attended a few meetings late last year and early 2017. This consultative group which was convened to discuss the NT Pensioner and Carer Concession payments.  Seniors would be aware that the previous government cancelled these payment to seniors that were not the recipients of a Centrelink payment.

As part of this consultative group, COTA has been lobbying hard on behalf of seniors and attended various meetings to discuss the election promise by the Gunner government regarding the $700.00 bi-annual proposed payment to seniors which was to replace all the other concessions that were previously available to all seniors.

We believe that soon a discussion paper will be released for public consultation and we would urge the NT government to make this a priority for our senior Territorians, who number well over 65,000.

On a brighter note – on the 31st March, Harmony Day is coming to COTA!  We will be having an African Lunch and Performance including a cultural performance with drumming and dance from Mbackeh Darboe from the Gambia.  Bookings are essential so hurry and call 89411044 and for the cost of $5.00 you can enjoy an African feast.
