Help with concessions and aged care

The deadline for confirming your details for the NT Concession and Seniors Recognition Scheme is the end of the year. We have been receiving numerous enquiries from people who want to know how to do this and to find out how changes to the scheme affects theme. The team from Territory Families is running an information session on the 8th November (10am) at COTA in Darwin to give people the opportunity to find out more about the new schemes and to ask questions. If you are interested in attending, call the COTA office on 8941 1004 to book a place (office hours, 9am to 3pm). (Another information session is being planned for the Goyder region, details will be available soon).

If you are unable to attend this session, there is help available from the NT Concession and Recognition Unit on free call number, 1800 777 704, at Territory Families’ shopfronts in regional centres and on the website, ntconcessions.nt.gov.au. This website also provides contact details and maps for Territory Families’ shopfronts.  

In regard to useful online resources, the Aged Care Guide published at www.agedcareguide.com.au provides comprehensive information about nursing homes, home care, retirement villages and care packages across Australia. It can help you find out more about the aged care system, providing information on who to contact for help, what care may be available (Home Care, Consumer Directed Care (CDC), Home and Community Care (HACC), Centre Based Care (CBC), Day Therapy Centres (DTC), Respite Care, Transition Care), an estimate of costs, and focus articles and news around dementia, finance, security and education.  It also publishes a comparison tool at www.agedcareguide.com.au/compare, which is an easy way to contact providers in the NT. You fill in the details of what is required, the tool brings up a list of available providers and can contact them for you.
