Centre Based Respite

Day Respite – Wulagi House

Please call 1800 242 636 or email for more information about their new respite services in Darwin

Wulagi House provides centre based respite in a group setting. This service operates Monday – Friday between the hours of 7:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturdays 9:00am – 1:00pm, depending on the individual’s needs. Day respite is based on group activities aimed at maintaining independence and re-enablement. Wulagi House has a modified bathroom, undercover outdoor areas and large open plan air-conditioned areas. It provides a warm, friendly and secure environment for the client.

Urban Troopy Program – Connecting with the Community

This service offers group based outings and activities that are culturally appropriate for Darwin’s Ageing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander population. The clients are collected from prearranged locations and venture out in the Darwin Urban & surrounding districts. The group collectively comes up with ideas for outings and activities they would like to do. Morning tea and lunch are provided as part of the service, often enjoyed at scenic spots and places of interest.

Evening Explorers – New Service

This service will provide support for the client who may get restless in the late afternoon. The clients are collected and returned to prearranged locations between
the hours of 3:30 – 6:30pm. Travelling by mini bus, this is an opportunity to socialise with others, participate in activities of interest, and enjoy a light evening snack.
Providing the carer with respite at what can be a busy time of the day.

Cottage Respite

Cottage respite is an individualised person centred overnight respite service. This respite takes place at one of Carers NT’s respite houses in the Northern suburbs.
Carers NT has dedicated and experienced Support Workers to ensure the client has an enjoyable and engaging stay. This form of respite allows the Carer to have some well-needed rest, to catch up on tasks around the house, take a short break away from the family home, or just relax to regenerate themselves, so they can continue in their caring role.

Flexible Respite

Flexible respite is a service which provides daytime or overnight support for clients in their own home. Time is spent with the client exploring their interests and hobbies. This enables the carer to have small regular breaks from their caring role, knowing their loved one is being cared for in a familiar environment.
