Bringing local government to the Cox-Daly and Marrakai-Douglas Daly Areas

24 Mar 2022

Northern Territory Government Media Release – 24 March 2022

The Northern Territory Government is calling on property owners, residents and other stakeholders with interests in the Cox-Daly and Marrakai-Douglas Daly Areas to have their say on proposed inclusion into a local government area(s).

An information paper outlining this proposal can be found at Have Your Say and the Northern Territory Government is interested in the views of the property owners, residents and other interested parties.

Feedback from the public consultation will inform which council areas might be appropriately extended to include these areas.
Landowners and residents of the land that will be incorporated into Council areas will obtain the benefits of being in a council area including: local representation; opportunity for involvement in community planning through transparent council processes; council advocacy for community benefit with other spheres of government; council-maintained community infrastructure; and council administration of by-laws to assist with matters such as animal management.

There are seven councils areas that border the Cox-Daly and Marrakai-Douglas Daly Areas:
· Belyuen Community Government Council
· Coomalie Community Government Council
· Litchfield Council
· Victoria Daly Regional Council
· Wagait Shire Council
· West Arnhem Regional Council
· West Daly Regional Council.
People can provide feedback online, by post or email. The closing date for responses is 20 May 2022.
