Action packed August planned for seniors
27 Jun 2017
It has been very exciting to review the events being organised throughout the Northern Territory for seniors for the upcoming Seniors Month in August. We’d like to offer our congratulations to all the organisers of these events – many of whom are volunteers – who have put so much effort and time into organising appealing, engaging and hugely interesting activities.
It definitely will be a wonderful month in which to try something new and to celebrate the wonderful lifestyle that seniors can enjoy in the Top End. The array of activities on offer for August caters for nearly every interest and taste. There are plenty of opportunities to get active, socialise, celebrate and be adventurous.
Here is just a taste of what’s planned across the Territory: seated aerobics, Pilates, English country dancing, water exercise, badminton, ballroom dancing, lawn bowls, contemporary dance, drumming, rock ‘n’ roll, golf, powerlifting, market tour, water colouring, yoga, Zumba Gold, craft workshops including dressmaking, jewellery making, lino printing, felt making, IT and cookery workshops, first aid courses and fishing trips.
There’s more: movies at the libraries and on big screens, outings to caves, a bird sanctuary, gorges and mines, guided tours of museums and libraries, a major EXPO in Alice Springs, a talent quest, picnics and shopping trips. And it’s not all about seniors – there are intergenerational activities including Grandparents Story Time, Darwin High School’s Morning of Entertainment, open days, library tours and treasure trails, balls and dance nights.
Yes, August will definitely be busy. Take a look at the events and activities being held in your local region and get in touch with the event organisers for more details and to make bookings. Information about these events is already online on the Territory Seniors Calendar cotant.org.au/territory-seniors-calendar. It is also worth noting, that many of these activities run throughout the year so if you like what you try, it can become a regular date in your diary.
