At the recent Annual General Meeting of COTA NT all positions for the 2013/2015 term of the Board were declared vacant and nominations called for new Board Membership.

Out-going Chairman Ken Cohalan OAM did not stand for re-election. His commitment and dedicated leadership of the Board over the past two years was recognised during the AGM proceedings.

The new Chair is Dr Vino Sathianathan who will now lead COTA NT for a two year tenure as well as continue her Directorship on the COTA- Australia Board. Other Executive Board Members elected include Vice Chair Mrs Jan Jewell of the COTA NT Coomalie Branch, Treasurer Ken Moffitt and Public Officer John Whyte. Board Members are: Sharon Tentye, Christine Osborn, Dr Sadhana Mahajani and Toni Vine-Bromley. Local government representatives are: Justine Glover of the City of Darwin and Cllr Dave Douglas from the Alice Springs Town Council.

With COTA NT moving into 2016, the new Board is committed to:

  • Advocating for and creating an age-friendly Territory
  • Securing adequate operational funding
  • Ensuring seniors have a voice in the development of local and Territory government senior’s policies and frameworks
  • Providing events and programmes throughout the year that continue helping seniors with differing needs contribute to, engage with and enjoy their community
  • Review of the Seniors Concession Scheme to make it more equitable.

COTA NT looks forward to many more seniors’ voices joining ours to help create a much stronger more effective and essentially inclusive Territory for all seniors. If you are interested in joining COTA NT, please contact us on 8941 1004 or email for more information.

Save the Date – One of the stand out successes for 2015 was the staging of the Seniors EXPO in the grounds of the Museum and Art Gallery at Bullocky Point. Over 700 seniors attended to visit more than 42 stalls set up to showcase community services lifestyle and entertainment. The 2016 Seniors EXPO will be held at the same location on Friday 3 June next year. It will have the theme ‘age-friendly in practice.’

Any groups or organisations interested in showcasing their age-friendly activities and services, or becoming an EXPO sponsor, are invited to contact Stephanie Kendall, COTA NT Events Manager on .
