Golden times, past, present and future

11 Dec 2018

Zumba Gold at Spillett House created many moments of fun, friendship and fitness!

At this time of year, COTA celebrates and thanks staff, volunteers and members for their contributions to the organisation with social functions featuring festive foods and music. We have much to look forward to in the New Year. In 2019, COTA will mark its 50th year of service to Territory seniors and as it’s our 50th anniversary year, we have a number of ‘golden’ events planned.

Past gold

We shared many golden moments over the last three years through a program of Zumba Gold that was available twice weekly at Spillett House. We are sorry to see these classes finish, but remain thankful for visionary instructor, Ann McNamara. Ann single-handedly ensured we held classes consistently and helped grow what started out as very small class numbers, helped people grow too in confidence (in dance, balance and movement abilities) and made sure Zumba Gold classes were about fun, fitness and friendship in equal measure. As yet, we have been unable to find a suitably qualified replacement instructor. If you are that person, please get in touch with the COTA office.

Future gold!

The 2019 calendar is, however, shaping up to be a wonderful year of activities with Bernie’s Tai Chi and Sharon’s Pilates and Seated Aerobics keeping our minds, bodies and spirits in good health. Our group of musicians will continue to meet and jam regularly and we already have dates in the diary for Centrelink information sessions, Love Thy Body, Seniors Expo, Seniors Month and more. If your organisation wishes to hold an activity or event for seniors, please contact us as soon as possible and remember that we can put you in touch with our branch representatives in the Alice Springs, Berry Springs and Coomalie communities.

You can also register for space in our program using our online registration form.

Seniors Expo 2019

Seniors Expo 2019 will be held on 31 May in Palmerston. Registration opening soon.

Territory Seniors Calendar

The online Territory Seniors Calendar and dedicated social media pages for all the ‘COTA’ regions can help promote your activities in these areas too.
