The winners of the Selfie with a Senior and 27th annual Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award have been announced at Parliament House and we congratulate all the winners and entrants.

This competition was sponsored by COTA NT for the fourth consecutive year. Thanks to all who entered and shared their stories, rich experiences and the profound wisdom and contribution of the older generation in celebratory and joyous pictures.

Winner Nevanka McKeon – Selfie with her father Dave McKeon. Dave is living with advanced dementia. Despite the challenges of dementia, their strong bond remains clear. In this beautiful photo shown right, Dave’s cheeky grin shows the warmth and connection they still share.

Runner Up Galina Lazareva – Selfie with Stuart Yirawara Aknin. Stuart is a fisherman, a pioneer, a keeper of stories and a thoroughly good bloke.

Highly commended Samantha Hubbard – Selfie with her mum, Sharon Wade. Samantha wanted to pay tribute to her mums hardwork, kindness and dedication to helping others.

Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award

We would also like to extend our congratulations to the winners of the Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award. There were 35 finalists in this year’s exhibition.

The free 2026 Portrait of a Senior Territorian exhibition is open to the public at Parliament House until Sunday 13 September 2026.

Territory artist Katalin Horompo, who won $7,000 first prize for Storytime: Conjuring Artemisia, a striking portrait of respected Territory playwright, dramaturg and director Sandra Thibodeaux.
Alice Cirrottola took second prize for Behind the Scenes: Charlie King
Bill Davies received third prize for Me (Self Portrait).
The $500 Young Artist Award went to Erika Loose for Donna Ah Chee and Alicia Scobie received a Highly Commended recognition for I Call Her Yapa.
