A trip back in time for COTA Berry Springs Seniors

COTA Berry Springs Seniors enjoyed a Rural Historical Tour thanks to our NT Government Seniors Month and Bendigo Bank grants.

The event allowed Berry Springs seniors to take a trip back in time to experience rural Darwin’s fascinating history. On our adventure we discovered, learned and explored the rich heritage of Pine Creek and Litchfield Park and relived the excitement of the past.

The group set off from Berry Springs and first headed to Adelaide River’s 303 Bistro for a delightful morning tea of sandwiches, cake and drinks. We had the chance to see Charlie the Buffalo from *Crocodile Dundee* and Jock the crocodile.

Back on the road, we relaxed in coach comfort, taking in the stunning beauty of the Territory’s outdoors — a refreshing escape that fostered a sense of community among participants and offered the chance to learn about the rural historical region. We arrived in Pine Creek for lunch, where we enjoyed a feast of roast meats with vegetables, (with options of a three meat salad and barra and chips) before heading to the museum to admire 40 vintage cars and over 65 bikes on display.

We headed back home and stopped at the war cemetery at Adelaide River. Unfortunately the road was closed, but we were still able to walk through the community cemetery with some interesting stories about the pioneers who opened up the NT being laid to rest there.

Then it was back to Berry Springs for a well-earned rest after an eventful day for most of the members, with everyone not only enjoying the fun and excitement but also eating a bit too much before heading home.
