In 2016, 95 Australians aged 55 and over drowned in Australian waterways. This represents 34% of all drowning deaths and is the highest age group. The Royal Life Saving Society Grey Medallion program is designed for the over 55’s. This water safety and lifesaving program aims to reduce the drowning rates of older Australians as well as promoting an active, healthy and independent lifestyle.
There are four components to the program;
1. Water Safety Knowledge
2. Resuscitation & Emergency Care
3. Aquatic Exercise
4. Personal Survival & Lifesaving skills
