Community Conversations is a national project of the Australian Red Cross that aims to build conversations on issues relating to refugees and seeking asylum. You will be immersed within the world of an asylum seeker, needing to make decisions about whether to flee from persecution, what possessions you will take, and which loved ones you are able take. This activity is supplemented by the story of a speaker who has lived experience of seeking asylum and an interactive presentation on global trends and Australian policy.
Fantastic feedback has been received from our previous sessions:
“Great way to address what it may be like to seek asylum”
” The … simulation-allows us to have more insight on what it’s like to be stripped off of everything”
” think all (of our) conversations can be productive to improve human lives”
Come along with a thirst for learning, a readiness to be challenged and a willingness to join the conversation.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
