Bernie is an active, engaged, passionate and reliable member of the NT community. After coming to Darwin from Adelaide in 1980, Bernie worked in accounting roles at Suttons Motors and the Darwin Community College, later being appointed as Internal Auditor at NTU.
Bernie was involved in umpiring with the NTFLUA, as a boundary and in the goals. He was awarded Life Membership of the Association in 1990. He was also a competitor and official with NT Athletics. He was honoured to officiate at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and in 2001 was awarded an Australian Sports Medal for his involvement in the foregoing and University Sporting activities.
Between 2001 and 2008 he and his family ran a business at Casuarina Square, before retiring and “grey-nomading” around Australia over a three year period, always coming home for the “dry” and eventually settling in Bakewell in 2011.
Bernie has volunteered at both Food Bank and COTA, commencing in 2011 as a Volunteer Bus Driver for COTA’s MASP program and other community events. Bernie is very happy to help passengers, their co-ordinators and COTA’s representatives in their Multicultural projects.
Bernie is married to Noelene. They have six children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and one dog named Benji.
