Darwin Frocktails

Darwin Frocktails is focused on celebrating the sewing of clothes and encouraging sewing skills in the community. Frocktails is a worldwide movement, celebrating the same aims on all continents for over ten years.

Darwin Frocktails’ key event is a gathering of the local sewing community; over 100 people attended the inaugural event in 2022.

The 2023 event will be held under the stars at the Darwin Ski Club from 5:30pm, Saturday 2 September. Tickets will be available from late May 2023 – like the Darwin Frocktails Facebook page to hear when they go on sale.

Entertainment at Darwin Frocktails is provided through competitions to recognise, for example, new and experienced sewing skills, innovative use of Indigenous and other fabrics, crafted outfits and upcycling.

Darwin Frocktails also hosts other events throughout 2023 including:

  • Fabric flower making – 30 April and 30 July
  • Meeting COTA NT members at the Darwin Seniors Expo – 27 May
  • Millinery techniques – 18 June
  • Darwin Frocktails goes to Ladies Day at the Darwin Turf Club – 19 July
  • Royal Darwin Show 27-29 July – sponsorship of first prize for two sections:
    • Class 2, Sewing, any item of clothing, machine-made, ladies’ or men’s and
    • Class 5, Creative Challenge, update, re-make or re-vamp a garment.
