AONT is a not-for-profit organisation partly funded by the NT Department of Health. Assisted by two part-time employees most of our service delivery is by dedicated volunteers. We’ve been around for a long time, becoming incorporated in 1983.
Promoting healthy lifestyles and self-management guidance, we provide reliable and up to date information to improve the understanding of arthritis and osteoporosis.
Arthritis Australia, together with the Australian Rheumatology Association, develop a wide range of information sheets for our use. These include condition specific information as arthritis refers to any condition affecting joints and/or the surrounding soft tissues; medical management, and self-management.
Through Healthy Bones Australia we have many fact sheets relating to the risk factors associated with developing osteoporosis, managing osteoporosis, and the effect on bone health from other conditions and/or their treatment.
Our work includes
Support groups are opportunities for members with common interests and experiences to meet informally over a cup of tea or coffee, to chat, share news and ideas etc. Good company in a relaxed setting means feeling better when you leave than when you arrived!
The Palmerston group meets monthly
Each meeting usually starts with some simple chair based exercises. Most meetings include guest speakers and/or activities. New faces are most welcome!
Our service delivery relies on community minded people who are prepared to engage with others in varying capacities on behalf of AONT. Appropriate training and support is provided to ensure an understanding of the volunteer positions, the role of the organistaion and the expectations of our clientele.
As well as making presentations, manning information stands and facilitating pain management courses, other volunteer roles include: board membership, newsletter and brochure production, and assisting with fund-raising activities.
As a grass roots organisation, developed to meet a community need, we welcome new members. Membership is just $40 per year ($20 concession) and adjusted pro-rata on a quarterly basis. All memberships expire on 30th June each year, with personalised renewal notices sent out with newsletters in the latter half of the year. We look forward to hearing from you.
